11th Annual Golf Tournament and Silent Auction

Dear Friend,

The purpose of this charitable golf tournament and Silent Auction is to benefit the Coach John S. Devlin Jr. Bloomsburg Football Scholarship Fund. Bloomsburg was his final stop during almost 40 years of coaching on every level from high school to the NFL.

Coach Devlin loved Jesus, his family, his players, and fellow coaches. He often said that the greatest coaching accomplishment was helping a hard-working player—a player who was not the fastest, biggest, quickest or the most talented player on the field to play great and overcome overwhelming odds. He cherished the occasions when he could convince players who everybody thinks “can’t play” to play beyond everyone's expectations. At Bloomsburg University, he returned to his roots—a place where perhaps he exceeded his own best as a coach.

This endowed fund will grow each year with the proceeds that are generated from the event. All donations are tax-deductible and all proceeds will go to the Coach Devlin Scholarship Fund, which will benefit players each year who best fit Coach Devlin’s mold—players who may not be the best athlete on the field—but players who work hard, players who are tough, and, above all, players who never quit.

Whether you can golf or simply want to be part of the festivities, this will be a truly special event for Bloomsburg University. Of course, if you can’t attend on May 16, 2009, you can contribute to the Devlin Scholarship Fund individually and/or as a sponsor. We appreciate any help you can give.
